About us

The EkoPartner Programme is a new initiative launched by the associations Sunce and Zelena Istra, respectively from Split and Pula, with the aim of:

  • integrating environmentally responsible practices in the management policy of small family hotels and tourist farms;
  • developing a platform for cooperation between different sectors in the implementation of necessary measures;
  • raising the awareness of the wider public, of national and local authorities, as well as tourist associations and entrepreneurs, at all levels, concerning environmental protection and sustainable development.

Our achievements in 2009:

  1. A programme was developed in cooperation with a number of stakeholders, for an environmentally responsible management of small tourist facilities in Croatia: European examples of good practice were examined, a survey was taken among tourist facility managers regarding the state of the art and the possible levels of new standard implementation, consultation workshops took place in Split and Pula, during which the content of the Programme and implementation methods were developed.
  2. A pilot project was put in place regarding the partial implementation of measures foreseen by the Programme in 10 small family owned hotels and tourist farms in Splitsko-dalmatinska County and Istarska County (guaranteed expense coverage).
  3. A strategy and marketing plan was drafted for the implementation of the Programme between 2009 and 2011.
  4. The Programme logo was created in line with its visual identity and an implementation manual was issued.
  5. A promotional video and printed material were presented, together with a web platform containing a data base of all the stakeholders relevant for Programme implementation.

In 2009 the project was financed by the EU and co-financed by the Ministry of Tourism and the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund of the Republic of Croatia.
